ThefirstFanFairwasheldinApril1972inNashvilleforfourdays.Someofcountrymusics biggeststarsattended.Therewereaboutfiftythousandfans.ThefirstFanFairwassosuccessfulthatplanningbeganalmostimmediatelyfor1973.ThedatewaschangedtoJunewhentheweatherwouldbebetter.OveronehundredthousandfansattendedthesecondFanFair.
EveryyearbroughtsomanyperformersandfanstoFanFairthatin1982itwasmovedtotheTennesseeStateFairgrounds.FanFairstayed?t:thefairgroundsforanothernineteenyears.
Therewasalwaystheunexpectedduringthefestival.In1974formerBeatlePaulMcCartneyattended.In1992morethansixhundredreportersfromEuropeAsiaandSouthAmericawenttocovertheappearanceofapopularstarBillyRayCyruswhohadintroducedanewcountrylinedance.In1996GarthBrookswhomadeasurpriseappearancesignedautographsfor23hours.
In2001FanFairreturnedtodowntownNashvilleastheworld5s biggestcountrymusicfestival.Nowoveronehundredandtwenty-fivethousandcountrymusicfansgotoNashvilleeveryJune.AsyoucanimaginethosewhowanttoattendFanFairmustplanahead.Forexampletheyneedtobuyaticketseveralmonthsaheadoftime.Ofcoursethere'smuchmoretoprepare.
